All three Premier League stars are the top three contenders for the UEFA award. However, reports suggest that Jorginho will walk away with the highly-coveted title. Tuttomercatoweb has claimed that Jorginho will be named as the UEFA’s Player of the Year award on Thursday, the 29-year-old is said to be presented with the prestigious award during the Champions League draw in Istanbul.
The Italy international had a sensational season last time around. He played a vital role in helping Chelsea win the Champions League for the second time. Under Thomas Tuchel, Jorginho formed a solid partnership in the Blues’ midfield alongside N Golo Kante. The duo was instrumental for the London outfit in European competition as Chelsea edged out Manchester City in Porto to go on and lift the trophy.
After a successful club season, which saw his team being named as the Champions of Europe, the midfielder went on to replace his stellar performances for the country. Featuring for Italy in the year long-delayed European Championships, Jorginho played every match for Azzurri and won the Euro 2020.
Following an excellent run of form and title-winning campaigns for club and country, Jorginho is rumored to be rewarded for the same. The 29-year-old was one of the best players in the Champions League last season while his sublime performances playing a crucial role in Italy’s win. He is now said to also be in line to post a serious challenge for the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
Jorginho is rumored to be the fourth-favorite to win the Ballon d’Or with fellow Chelsea star N’ Golo Kante Lewandowski and Messi, ahead of him. He could go on and become only the second player behind Luka Modric to win the Ballon d’Or apart from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo with the duo bagging the award amongst themselves since 2008.
The Italian star is also reported to be a top priority for Chelsea with the club chiefs looking to initiate talks with his representatives and propose a contract extension in the near future.
