Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and Ligue 1 club Paris Saint Germain on Wednesday reached the quarter finals of the Champions League riding on stars Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe’s brilliance. Bayern overcame a 1-0 deficit in the first led to Lazio to win the home fixture 3-0 while PSG eked out a comfortable 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad to reach the quarters with an aggregate of 4-1.
Both Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe were on fire for their respective teams with the superstars taking center stage by scoring a brace each.
Bayern had a tricky job in their hands as they had lost 1-0 away in the first leg. Moreover, the Bundesliga giants are in a precarious position in their own league, winning just one out of their last 5 league games and are trying to close in on a 10-point gap to league leaders Bayern Leverkusen.
However, Bayern Munich left all that behind in the Champions League with a convincing victory. Harry Kane, who was bought from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, scored in either half to ensure Bayern’s run in the UCL continue. Thomas Mueller scored the other goal.
PSG on a roll
For PSG, it was about putting the noise behind and concentrating in their game. The Ligue 1 champions are the talk of the town with Mbappe apparently nearing an exit. However, Mbappe was on song against Real Sociedad as the Ligue 1 giants did not have to toil hard to reach the quarters.
Mbappe looked menacing for PSG and the Real Sociedad defenders had a hard time marking the forward. Mbappe eventually netted a brace, carrying PSG comfortably in the quarter finals.
