Turkish Giants Besiktas emerge as surprise suitors for Mason Greenwood

Besiktas emerge as surprising bidders for Manchester United's Mason Greenwood, who recently left the Premier League team.

After being let go by Manchester United, Mason Greenwood has been approached by a prominent European team. The Red Devils are in a race against the clock to sell the 21-year-old before the transfer window ends at 11 p.m. on Friday.

Turkish giants Besiktas are allegedly exploring a loan bid for the youthful attacker. The Süper Lig club has surfaced as a possible suitor for the forward. They are thought to be considering resuming discussions to relaunch Greenwood’s career.

Following his arrest for attempted rape and sexual assault on August 21, Greenwood “mutually agreed” to quit United. He was charged in October of last year, but the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges in February.

Greenwood has not played for United since being suspended in January 2022. This month, it was decided that it would be best for everyone if he left Old Trafford.
Besiktas apparently believes that a six-month loan period might be utilised to gauge public opinion on the striker.

It is also believed that any move for Greenwood would require the approval of the Besiktas women’s squad. If a deal is not completed before the end of the transfer season, United may have to wait until the January transfer window opens.

Alternatively, they could be forced to pay the £75,000-a-week striker nearly £8 million to terminate his contract. Greenwood will be free to join any team in any league if United agree to terminate his contract before the transfer window shuts.

Greenwood’s choices are limited if the Red Devils cannot reach an agreement to dissolve his contract. This is due to the fact that most of Europe’s top leagues also close their transfer windows on Friday.
