Denmark, the surprise European champions in 1992, advanced to the semi-finals of Euro 2020, enjoying their best tournament performance since then. For the first time in twenty years, Denmark will be trying to make the most of qualifying for consecutive European Championships. Under head coach Kasper Hjulmand, the Danes advanced to the semifinals of the Euro 2020 tournament and will be hoping for a better showing following their group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup.

Key Players and Profiles
Star Players
Here are some of the key players of Denmark’s UEFA Euro 2024 Squad.
Christian Eriksen
Some have questioned why Eriksen remains on his national side at age 32 and plays little for Manchester United. However, for football fans in Denmark and beyond, seeing Eriksen on the field this summer will be a heartwarming conclusion to a remarkable story that transcends sports.
His resilience and creative skills in Denmark’s midfield following his cardiac arrest during the last finals in 2021 have been truly inspirational, suggesting he still has much to offer and may be a key player at Euro 2024.
Joachim Andersen
Joachim Andersen was a vital cog in Crystal Palace’s top-half finish in the Premier League this season. The 27-year-old defender played every game for the London-based club and ensured their defensive record was one of the best in their history ever.
He can also score goals and he showed it in PL when he netted twice and provided three assists in the competition. He is just the kind of talent Denmark needs in UEFA Euro 2024.
Jannik Vestergaard
Jannik Vestergaard was one of the main reasons behind Leicester City’s promotion to the Premier League this season. The Centre-back featured in all the games for the 2016 PL champions in the Championship which the team won by a comfortable margin.
Although age is not on his side, expect a spirited outing from the Dane considering he will become a Premier League player soon.
Young Talent
Rasmus Hojlund
Rasmus Hojlund arrived at Manchester United ahead of the season and struggled for form for quite some time. However, once the Dane settled into United’s environment, he started scoring goals for fun, even having a better shot-conversion percentage than PL Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland. He will lead the charge for Denmark in the UEFA Euro 2024.
Mikkel Damsgaard
Mikkel Damsgaard didn’t have quite a successful season with Brentford in the Premier League. However, he managed to help his side stay afloat in the top tier of English football.
Moreover, people forget that the midfielder is merely 23 years old and has a lot of time before he hits his peak. Don’t be surprised if Damsgaard chooses UEFA Euro 2024 to announce his arrival in world football.
Team Strategy and Tactics
Kasper Hjulmand, the Denmark coach, has seen highs and lows as both a player and a manager. Hjulmand was a promising defender who was forced to retire at 26 years old due to an injury.
However, after a promising club career as a manager, he joined the Danish national side in 2020. He delivered massively in his first major project, the Euro 2020 where Denmark reached the semi-finals against everyone’s expectations. However, the Danes crashed out of the group stage in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Formation and Playing Style
Hjulmand is a clever tactician who likes to keep his opponents guessing about his formation. However, there seems to be a pattern in his thought process. For teams that are stronger than Denmark, Hjulmand prefers a 3-5-2 formation where the wing backs does the dual role of helping attackers with the ball and making a 5-man defence off it. However, for teams against whom Denmark gets an advantage, Hjulmand prefers a more attacking 4-3-3.
Denmark’s past Euro performances
Denmark have made 9 appearances in Euros till date. Their best success came in 1992 when they won the 1992 UEFA Euro tournament against everyone’s expectations. However, they have been largely inconsistent in the tournament. Their best finish since being champions in 1992 occurred in the Euro 2020 when they finished as semi-finalists.
Recent Matches
Denmark had a fantastic Euro 2024 qualifier campaign, losing just two games and topping the group on the basis of a better head-to-head record against second-placed Slovenia. Hjulmand’s side conceded only 10 goals during their campaign and scored 19 winning seven games out of 10. They also won their last friendly match against Faroe Island but drew 0-0 against Switzerland before.

Historical Squads
The Danish national football team has competed in nine UEFA European Championships and has claimed one championship. They finished fourth in the 1964 tournament, which was their first competition. Denmark won their first major tournament title when they defeated Germany 2-0 in the UEFA Euro 1992 final in Sweden. In the winning squad of 1992, Denmark took a 20-man contingent with Kasper Schmeichel’s father Peter Schmeichel leading the charge. The UEFA Euro 2024 will be their 10th appearance in the competition.
