Tokyo Olympics Football: Brazil enters second consecutive final, edge out Mexico on penalties – 2016 Gold medalists Brazil reached have managed to reach their second consecutive Olympics football final with defending champions registering a 4-1 win over Mexico on Tuesday.

Both the teams came out all guns blazing looking to get the better of their opponents while also being cautious about not conceding a goal. The semi-final tie between Brazil and Mexico remained all squared up at the halftime mark with the second half also yielding a similar result.

Things could have been different as Everton star Richarlison came close to breaking the deadlock in the dying minutes of the match. The 24-year-old attacker hit a glancing header in the 82nd minute that struck the post as the Mexican breathed a sigh of relief.

However, the experience of playing at such a level came in handy for the South American giants they held onto their nerves beat Mexico in Kashima on penalties.

Speaking about the shootouts, Brazil goalkeeper Santos saved Eduardo Aguirre shot before Johan Vasquez smacked the post with Mexico’s second attempt. Dani Alves, Gabriel Martinelli, Bruno Guimaraes, and Reinier all scored for Brazil, who await either Spain or hosts Japan in Saturday’s final in Yokohama.

Brazil has successfully entered the final of the men’s Olympic football competition and are assured of a medal following their exploits on Tuesday. They are set to face the winners of the second semi-final between Spain and Japan which has been scheduled to be played in Saitama on Tuesday.
