It won’t be a Kolkata Derby without tifos! And this East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan derby in the Indian Super League (ISL) is no exception. During the National Anthem as customary, the fans of both sides went out to unleash a flurry of banners from the stands.
While East Bengal’s main tifo was a subtle dig towards the Mariners, the Green and Maroon brigade however paid tribute to one of their departed fans. The Red and Gold Brigade also dedicated a special tifo for their latest possession from Mohun Bagan, India’s ace defender Anwar Ali.
After the ongoing banter between both sides, the Bengal fans also went on to unfurl a special banner. It read that “The gallery demands more Bengali players in the Kolkata Derby”.
As far as the playing XI of both teams is concerned, there are only two Bengali players on the field. Subhasish Bose is captaining the Mariners while Souvik Chakraborti is the midfield general for the Red and Gold brigade. On the other hand, both sides have a couple of Bengali players on the bench.
