Following crisis talks, Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel have mutually agreed to part ways this summer. An official announcement from the Bundesliga champions is expected imminently as they prepare to embark on the search for a new head coach.
“We have agreed that we will end our collaboration after the end of this season”, said Tuchel in a statement.
“Until then, my coaching staff and I will of course continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success for FC Bayern”.
Tuchel took the helm at Bayern in March 2023, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, and promptly guided the team to their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title.
However, despite initial success, the former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain manager has grappled with squad balance, leading to a downturn in results this season. Bayern currently trail Leverkusen by eight points in the league standings after 22 matches.
Additionally, Bayern suffered an early exit from the DFB-Pokal and face an uphill battle to advance to the Champions League quarter-finals following a first-leg loss to Lazio in the round of 16.
This string of disappointing results, coupled with damaging Bundesliga defeats, prompted the board to opt for change in the summer, resulting in the premature termination of Tuchel’s contract.
