According to DailyStar, Police are probing the death of the 39-year-old, said to have occurred on Sunday night after he was held by three men after allegedly breaking into an elderly woman’s apartment at a beach in the southern Brazilian city of Florianopolis.
Detectives say they are probing the footballer’s brother’s death as a possible homicide or manslaughter but have not yet made any arrests or gone into any detail on what happened at the apartment overlooking the popular Canasvieiras Beach holiday spot.
Unconfirmed reports say the incident was initially treated as a break-in before it emerged a man had died. Taison’s mother Rosangela Freda was rescued unharmed by police after being snatched from the midfielder’s home city of Pelotas in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul in July 2018.

Taison who currently plays for Brazilian Serie A side Internacional, was by her side after being given time out by his club to attend the funeral of big brother Leandro Freda. Taison, who made eight appearances for his national team between 2016 and 2019 and was named in the final 23 man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, posted an emotional tribute to his older sibling on social media.

The footballer, believed to have been one of 11 children his mum gave birth to, added: “I, my mum and our brothers and sisters will love you eternally. In mourning. I love you bro.” Police are said to have found him dead at the unidentified pensioner’s apartment after responding to a distress call from the men who held him.

Local reports said Leandro, thought to have lived nearby with his girlfriend, was “out of his mind” when he allegedly forced his way into the flat where he died. One said he got by with odd jobs in a bakery and hostel and money his mum gave him and quoting neighbours and acquaintances, described him as someone who was “friendly” and never violent.
In July 2018 Taison, who was sent off while with Shakhtar in November 2019 after reacting to alleged racist abuse, learnt his doting mum had been kidnapped from the family home by an armed gang who posed as courier drivers to snatch her.
She was kidnapped after being fooled into believing she had been sent flowers but forced into the vehicle they were driving instead after having a gun pointed at her head as she went to collect the bouquet. Police rescued her unharmed hours later and made several arrests.
