When he guided Rangers to their first Scottish championship since 2011, Gerrard thrived in his first managerial position. However, he had less success after moving from Ibrox to Aston Villa, where he finished stolidly in 14th place before having a bad start to this season and being fired in October.

The Polish FA is willing to pay Gerrard top dollar in the hopes that the rise in sponsorship income the legendary former midfielder would bring would enable him to more than cover his costs. Gareth Southgate’s decision to remain with England, which means the Three Lions position will be off limits until at least next summer, has also helped Poland.

If Gerrard accepted the position in Poland, he would reunite with Jan Bednarek and Matty Cash, two of the players he oversaw at Villa Park. Being eligible to play for the Poles because his grandfather was from Gdansk in 2021, Cash aroused eyebrows when he changed his international allegiance from England.
Poland advanced to the round of 16 before falling to France, giving them their best statistical World Cup performance since 1982 in Qatar. But it wasn’t enough to save manager Michniewicz, whose extremely defensive style of play failed to win him over the crowd. Star striker Robert Lewandowski also criticised him, saying: “The joy of the game is needed. It will be an important element, even in in the near future.”
The Polish media has connected several coaches to the manager’s position. Among them are Vladimir Petkovic, the former manager of Switzerland, Roberto Martinez, who has since joined Portugal, and Herve Renard, the Saudi Arabian manager.
