Ronaldo sets target of 1000 goals after scoring brace in Euro qualifiers

Ronaldo is 38 years old and will turn 39 before the Euro 2024. He set an ambitious target of scoring 1,000 goals before taking the retirement from professional football.

Portugal and Al Nassr forward, Cristiano Ronaldo is looking to achieve the milestone of 1000 goals following a match-winning double strike against Slovakia in Euro qualifiers. Ronaldo is in the final years of his career and he is looking to end his career with this biggest milestone.

Ronaldo is currently on national duty with Pakistan. He is targeting the first major event next year, Euro 2024 will be held in Germany. He netted a brace in Portugal’s other emphatic win over Slovakia. He took his tally of international goals to 125 goals which is highest by any player. With the brace midweek, he now has 857 career goals.

President of FC Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto made a bet with him to score a thousand goals and the 38-year-old forward accepted the challenge. He said in the conversation, “It will be quite difficult, but it’s about my mindset and my motivation. If, physically, my legs treat me as well as I treat them… We’ll see, these are small steps. To get to 1,000, you first have to get to 900. I think I will get there.”

Ronaldo is currently playing with Al Nassr and he is keen to extend his contract with the Saudi club. The new contract will keep him at Pro League until 2027. The legendary forward is targeting one more FIFA World Cup which will be held in 2026. He will be 41 years old before the mega event co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Cristiano Ronaldo is showing great form with Al Nassr, scoring 11 goals in 11 games this season. With this intensity, he can target the milestone of 1000 goals. Ronaldo will now take part in his upcoming Euro qualifier game on October 16 against Bosnia. Portugal has already sealed their place for Euro 2024 so it would be interesting to see if Ronaldo makes it into the XI or not.
