Ronaldo was expected to make his Al Nassr debut against Al Ta’ee. However, the club official who did not wish to be named said that the club is yet to register the Portuguese skipper’s name because there is no vacancy for a foreign player. The club needs to register Ronaldo, either by selling or by terminating the contract of one player by mutual consent.

Currently, Al Nassr’s foreign contingent includes Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina, Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo and forwards Anderson Talisca of Brazil and Vincent Aboubakar. Another source from the club said, “The negotiations are going on to sell one of the players but they have not reached the final stages”.

Ronaldo’s last appearance came for Portugal against Morocco during the FIFA World Cup 2022 quarterfinal match. The forward did not start that game but was introduced as a substitute in the second half.

Why is Cristiano Ronaldo handed two match ban?

Cristiano Ronaldo was slapped with a ban for smashing a phone from a fan’s hand post-Manchester United’s game against Everton last season. According to FIFA rules the player will have to serve the ban even if he joins a new club. The two-game suspension means he will not even be able to play in the team’s second game as well, which will be against Al-Shabab on January 14, 2023.

The independent FA panel, chaired by Christopher Quinlan KC found Ronaldo guilty of ‘a deliberate and forceful slap down’ which was ‘a petulant act.’ Ronaldo’s suggestion was that the crowd was aggressive and the atmosphere was hostile. While walking back, he spotted a hand pointing toward his injured leg and also saw that the hand was holding an object. His response to the same was to slap the hand/object away, without knowing what it was.
The FIFA rules state “Any disciplinary sanction of up to four matches or up to three months that has been imposed on a player by the previous association but not yet (fully) served at the time of transfer shall be enforced by the new association with which the player is registered in order for the sanction to be enforced at national level,”.
