Inter’s bid for Romelu Lukaku gets rejected by Chelsea, Juventus & Saudi in race

Chelsea are not ready to bring back Romelu Lukaku. Internazionale readying a £25.6 million offer to bring the striker on a permanent deal.

Romelu Lukaku Transfer: Romelu Lukaku joined Internazionale on a loan deal at the beginning of last season. Plagued with injuries, the striker had an average season. With Chelsea trying to rebuild their team and balance their books, they have been in a flash sale mode this transfer window. With Mauricio Pochettino not showing any interest to bring back Lukaku, the striker seems to be on the ‘to sell’ list. Inter bid for the player but Chelsea rejected the offer as they are asking for at least £38.5 million.

Even through injuries, Romelu Lukaku has had a good season with Internazionale. Lukaku found his footing with Inter after a bad season with Chelsea in 2021-22. As a result, Inter first wanted to extend their loan deal with Chelsea. However, the Blues who have already sold 8 players with 3 more ready to go out, only want to sell Lukaku.

Chelsea brought Lukaku on a £97.5 million transfer fee, so they might have to suffer a huge loss. Juventus, Inter, and Saudi clubs are interested in Lukaku. Inter’s first bid was rejected by Chelsea as they are not willing to accept a bid that is less than £38.5 million.

Coming from Anderlecht in 2011, Lukaku was a Chelsea player for 3 years. However, he spent 2 of them on loan to Albion and then Everton. Everton bought him in 2014 where he stayed for another 3 years. He went on to make a name for himself from here as he appeared in 110 games for them and scored 53 times. He managed to grab the attention of Manchester United who brought him in for a rumoured transfer fee of £75 million plus £15 million in add-ons.

In his two-year stint at Man United, he made 96 appearances and scored 42 goals. Moving to Italy in 2019, he had two good seasons with Internazionale and impressed the Chelsea chiefs who called him back in 2021. The Blues brought him to Stamford Bridge for a massive transfer fee. However, he spent only one season with them where he made 44 appearances and scored only 15 goals. Chelsea sent him back to Inter on a loan deal at the beginning of last season.

Going back to Italy, his form did not return and he spend a lot of time suffering from injuries. He still managed to make 37 appearances throughout all competitions and scored 14 goals. Chelsea went through a nightmare season and ended last season in position in the Premier League table. The last time they went below this was 29 years ago in the 1993-94 season. Many reasons for this downfall have been detected. However, one of the sole reasons was their inflated 31-player squad.

Additionally, Chelsea also suffered a £121 million loss they have to cover as soon as possible. As a result, they have found the solution to their financial problem in their inflated-squad problem. Chelsea have been in flash sale mode this transfer window. They have already sold N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Cesar Azpilicueta, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Mateo Kovacic. Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech are also on the list of departing players. In this situation, Chelsea are unwilling to bring back Lukaku.
