As Real’s players entered the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu with jerseys featuring Vinicius’ No. 20 and armbands bearing anti-racism slogans, a sign behind one of the goals read, “Enough is enough.”
Just after the halfway point, Real’s Karim Benzema took advantage of a ball on the outside of the box to score from close range before Rayo’s Raul de Tomas equalised six minutes before the end of the game. However, shortly before the final horn, Rodrygo gave Madrid the advantage once more.

According to Spanish media, a knee problem kept Vinicius from practising in advance of the match. He sat close to club president Florentino Perez to witness the game.
Just after the halfway point, Benzema gave the home team the lead by latching onto a Federico Valverde cross on the outside of the box and converting from close range.
Six minutes from time, Rayo attacker De Tomas pulled his team even, but in the 89th minute, Rodrygo gave Real the lead again by beating custodian Stole Dimitrievski with a low effort from just beyond the area that went inside the right post.
