Cristiano Ronaldo is a global name and each one of his actions are scrutinized closely. Most of the time, the Al Nassr striker is in the spotlight for something he does. But this time, CR7 has been in the headlines for something he didn’t do. He did not vote for the Kopa trophy as a previous Ballon d’Or winner.

The judges for this year’s Ballon d’Or were made up of 100 journalists representing the top 100 countries ranked in the FIFA world rankings. The winner, Messi, was awarded 462 points, 105 more than runner-up, Haaland.
No votes from Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won the Ballon d’Or five times, was eligible to vote for the Kopa Trophy. He was invited to take part in France Football’s selection process for the prestigious award. The Kopa Trophy is awarded to the world’s best Under-21 player each year.
However, the former Los Blancos striker refused to put in his vote, according to Footmercato. Most big names to win the Ballon d’Or previously casted their votes. Players such as Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Jean-Pierre Papin and Zinedine Zidane voted as Jude Bellingham won the Kopa Trophy.
According to the report, Cristiano Ronaldo has not responded to inquiries from French media outlets for a number of years and has stayed away from jury duty.
Notably the Al Nassr superstar wasn’t part of the top 30 Ballon d’Or list this year, for the first time since 2001. CR7 had previously reacted to a journalist’s post bashing Messi after the latter won his eighth Ballon d’Or.
Tomas Roncero, a Spanish journalist, posted a controversial video after Messi was adjudged the winner of the Ballon d’Or. In the video, Roncero opined that Messi should have five Ballon d’Ors instead of eight. He claimed that three of Messi’s Ballon d’Ors, including the latest one, is undeserved.
Ronaldo ‘liked’ the social media post and commented with four laughing emojis, clearly showing his disapproval for this year’s Ballon d’Or winner.
