In a massive boost for England, Jude Bellingham has been cleared to play in the Euro 2024 quarterfinal against Switzerland by UEFA. Jude Bellingham handed a probationary ban
Bellingham has received a suspended one-match ban and a €30,000 (£25,406) fine. According to UEFA, the ban is “not immediately enforced and is subject to a probationary period of one year.” Additionally, the Football Association has been fined €11,000 (£9,312) for crowd disturbances (€10,000) and the use of fireworks (€1,000).
Why was Jude Bellingham likely to be banned?
The gesture in question took place after Bellingham’s overhead kick, which levelled the score and prevented England from a humiliating early exit. The 21-year-old’s goal with about 80 seconds left took the game into extra time, where England ultimately secured a 2-1 victory. Bellingham was filmed walking with Kane, kissing his own hand, and grabbing his crotch while looking into the crowd.
Losing Bellingham would have been a severe setback for England, which is already struggling in the tournament. The midfielder, who recently celebrated his 21st birthday, has had an exceptional season with Real Madrid, winning both La Liga and the Champions League. He also netted England’s only goal in their group-stage opener, a 1-0 victory over Serbia.
