The Croatia international has been terrific for the Los Blancos during the Champions League campaign and his absence will hurt Carlo Ancelotti in the toughest game of the season. Real Madrid have officially confirmed that the 37-year-old midfielder has been diagnosed with a thigh injury. It means, he will take time to recover and will not take part in the first-leg semifinal at home.

His thigh injury also ruled him out of the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna. Real Madrid made into the finals after eliminating Barcelona in the semifinals and Los Blancos are searching for the Copa del Rey title from the last 12 years.

Luka Modric had a knock in the previous game against Girona where Real Madrid faced a 4-2 defeat. He spends the rest of the game on the bench with ice strapped to his leg. This injury will take time to recover and there is no specific time to tell about this. The club also refused to add a time frame for Luka Modric’s comeback.

Real Madrid have some tough assignment in the final month of the season. Ancelotti’s side will enter in the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna on May 06 and then, they will host Manchester City in the first-leg semifinal at the Santiago Bernabeu three days later.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed his injury in the press conference after the defeat against Girona. He said, “He has a small injury. I don’t know if he will reach the cup final. We are hurt, but these things happen. I hope he recovers.”

Los Blancos head was asked about his replacement then he answered, “By characteristics, Ceballos. But in general, we have many resources: Camavinga, Tchouameni… plenty of tools to replace him, although he is an irreplaceable player due to his experience in these matches.”

The reigning Europan winners will also miss Eder Militao who will serve suspension against Man City on May 09. Ancelotti added on it, “We’ll probably have to replace both of them in the Champions League first leg. Militao, for sure, but hopefully not with Modric.”

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is also out from the squad due to a stomach problem but he is recovering and will be available in the Champions League tie. Karim Benzema is also back after shaking off a knock. It will be the biggest clash of the Champions League this season as Man City are in red-hot form and Real Madrid are dominating in Europan competitions.
