Luckily for him, it pinged off the crossbar before being cleared. Asensio and Isco also went close but the teams went into the break goalless. Real Madrid ramped it up in the second half and could’ve gone ahead on a number of occasions but for Maximiano in the Granada goal, however he was finally beaten in the 74th minute when Asensio let fly from distance. It arrowed into the far corner of the net and was a goal worthy of winning any game. The hosts then thought they had a penalty in the 78th minute when Hazard was felled before it was judged to be outside the box. They saw the game out though to give them a big 1-0 victory.

That win for the hosts mean that they extend their lead at the top to six points over second-placed Sevilla. They’ll travel to Villareal next as they look to continue their role as frontrunners in the title race. Defeat for the visitors means that they remain in 16th position, just six points above the relegation zone. They play Real Sociedad away in their next match as they seek to put some distance between them and the drop.

Real Madrid hosted Granada on Sunday evening and earn three points after a slim 1-0 win. Without the likes of key stars Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior and Casemiro, the LaLiga leaders found themselves frustrated on the pitch throughout the majority of the match.

Unified defending from Granada kept the likes of Toni Kroos and Rodrygo tame while Luís Maximiano was kept on his toes by Marco Asensio. Things remained 0-0 at the break and Real Madrid continued to control the match in the second half holding 66 percent possession and registering 24 shots compared to Granada’s seven.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti brought on Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard to try and add a spark on the pitch and while it did work, the man of the hour was Asensio. The 26-year-old scored one of his trade-mark goals from way downtown late in the game to see the hosts earn all three points. Real Madrid now sit six points clear at the top of the table.
