England’s Raheem Sterling returned home after an armed burglary at his home in London. While the Chelsea star was in Qatar playing in the World Cup, his house was ransacked by thieves. The incident happened while Sterling’s wife and three kids were home and the England winger has flown in to check their well-being.
The 27-year-old was also targeted by burglars when he played for Manchester City and lived in Cheshire in 2018. He is the second player to leave the camp in Qatar after Ben White returned home citing personal reasons.

In his absence on Sunday, Gareth Southgate’s side registered a 3-0 win over Senegal. They will now play France in the quarterfinals. Sterling his a key player for England during coach Gareth Southgate’s six years in charge. The 27-year-old has 20 goals in 81 caps for his country. He featured at the 2022 World Cup in a 6-2 victory over Iran.
“At the moment clearly the priority is for him to be with his family. We’re going to support that and leave him to have as much time as he needs. At the moment it’s a situation he needs time with his family to deal with and I don’t want to put him under any pressure with that. Sometimes football isn’t the most important thing and family should come first,” said England manager Gareth Southgate.
However, Sterling may have already been squeezed out of Southgate’s starting line-up for the last eight. Een if he does return to Qatar, the likes of Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden have all impressed. Saka and Rashford have each scored three times in the tournament, while Foden provided two assists in the routine win over Senegal.
