Chelsea’s bid to sign Ugarte was of €60 million (£52m/$64m), and wages lower compared to PSG’s bid. Just after the player had agreed on the personal terms to sign for the Blues, PSG submitted a new bid, which is said to be higher with increased wages. Chelsea decided to not pay more than what they had offered earlier, so they decided to pull themselves out of the bid.
This is something new from the Chelsea side, as the Premier League side were very aggressive in bidding wars in the last 2 transfer windows. They spent over €600 million to sign multiple players since new owners took over the club.
As a result of Chelsea pulling themselves out, PSG will now be completing the transfer of the 22-year-old. As per the reports, Ugarte is undergoing his medicals in France before signing the contract.
Notably, Ugarte is not the only one who is getting signed by PSG this early in the transfer window. They have also secured the transfer of Marco Asensio from Real Madrid for free.
Marco Asensio Transfer
Real Madrid confirmed that Asensio will be leaving the club this season after his contract expires. Paris Saint Germain were quick to react and secured a move for the left-footed star for free. He will be signing the new contract with PSG after undergoing his medical. The contract is said to be valid till 2027.
The French club has now signed two players in quick time with the transfer window yet to be opened.
Chelsea on the other hand will be exploring other options after missing out on Ugarte. Brighton’s midfielder, Caicedo is rumored to be their main target to strengthen their midfield.
