PSG secured a 2-0 win over Monaco on SundayLionel Messi was one of the favourites to win this year’s Ballon d’Or but faced stiff competition from the likes of Mohamed Salah and Lewandowski. Midfielder Jorginho was also a top contender for the coveted prize after winning the Champions League 2020-21 with Chelsea and Euro 2020 with Italy.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the 34-year-old said: ‘I’m really proud to win the France Football Ballon d’Or once again.
“It’s incredible to win it for the seventh time. I would like to thank my family, my friends and all the people who follow me and always support me, because without them I couldn’t have done it’.

PSG Chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi also congratulated Messi and said, ‘I would like to warmly congratulate Leo.
“The club is immensely proud that one of our players has won this most prestigious and coveted title.
“Leo is making football history once again. Along with all our supporters around the world, we are delighted to be able to enjoy one of most iconic footballers of all time in the Rouge & Bleu shirt,” he said.
Talking about PSG’s Sunday encounter, Kylian Mbappe scored a braced in his team’s 2-0 win against Monaco at the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris.
With the win, Ligue 1 table-toppers PSG extended their lead over second-placed Marseille by 13 points.
