Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund opened up on how he finds inspiration from Cristiano Ronaldo. He admired the former United striker with calling him a “proper goalscorer”. Hojlund revealed that Ronaldo was his idol when he was growing up. Man United signed the 20-year-old striker in the summer to improve their attack and he has delivered some quality performances this season.
Hojlund is a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo. He admires the journey of the Portugal star who gave wings to his career at Man United under Sir Alex Ferguson. The Danish striker is following Ronaldo’s footsteps in his debut season at Old Trafford. Man United was the first club where Ronaldo became a proper goal-scorer and achieved milestones. Hojlund follows Ronaldo’s hard work and adapts it to improve his striking ability.
Rasmus Hojlund spoke to TeamViewer Diaries and said, “Cristiano has always been like my idol growing up. I always thought he was the best football player in the world and I just tried to learn from him. He is the greatest goalscorer ever, probably as well. I’ve always looked at him back in the day where he was more of a dribbler and now he’s a proper, proper goalscorer. You know he had proper talent, but he worked hard to be the best ever and I like that about him.”
The Danish footballer also talked about his improvement under Erik ten Hag and discussed how the role of a forward has changed in recent years. He added, “In the modern game of football, we need to do the hard pressing as well from the front line. The game is evolving, and I learned that already in my youth years,” he added. “So I’ve always been used to the pressing part. And like you said, I think it’s one of the things I do well. The boss also wants me and the frontline to put in a shift, so yes it’s good.”
The 20-year-old forward impressed everyone with his striking ability during the Champions League where he scored a brace in first-half against Copenhagen. Man United lost the seven-goal thriller 4-3 but Hojlund was a star performer. The Danish striker has scored five goals in European competition and is the third-highest goal-scorer. Hojlund is currently recovering from the injury and he recently withdrew his name from the Denmark squad for Euro qualifiers.
