West Ham have ended their three-game losing run in all competitions, and move to fifth with that win, though Arsenal are due to kick off shortly. They have a big Europa League second-leg tie with Sevilla up next. Villa’s winning run is also over, but they stay in ninth. They host Arsenal next time out.

Ukraine international Andriy Yarmolenko couldn’t hold back the tears as his second half goal sent West Ham on their way to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa. It was a battle of the claret and blue at the London Stadium as West Ham hosted Aston Villa.

There was an early blow for the away side as Lucas Digne hobbled off after 15 minutes to be replaced by Ashley Young. The Hammers then wrestled control of the half and peppered the Villa goal with a barrage of efforts on the half hour mark.

After the break the home side really should have gone ahead but Craig Dawson missed one of the sitters of the season, firing wide from two yards. There was a beautiful moment late on though, as Ukrainian Andriy Yarmolenko finished brilliantly to give West Ham the lead.

David Moyes’ side then doubled their lead as Pablo Fornals finished off some good work by Declan Rice. Jacob Ramsey’s stoppage time strike pulled one back but it wasn’t enough.
