Solskjaer mentioned that Carrick came to him after 10 days of his sacking to say he didn’t want to run the club without him. He said, “I love him as a person, but while he never said anything to me about it, the day I got booted, I went to see him and said: ‘I’m gone, they want you to take over.’ I told him that I wanted him to do it. After ten days, Michael came to me and said: ‘I don’t want to do this.'”
He added, “We were in it together and we were no longer together. I took that as a compliment because I had the utmost respect for him.”
Solskjaer was sacked by United in November 2021 after several poor results that season. However, the defeat against Watford, which came by a scoreline of 4-1, forced the club to relieve the former striker from his duties. He joined United in 2018 as the caretaker manager but was appointed a full-time manager after producing good results.

Ole also mentioned that he’s sure one day, Carrick will be managing United. He said, “I am 100 per cent sure that Michael will be the manager of Manchester United if he wants to be.”
Carrick worked for Ole as his coaching staff for those three years. However, when he was sacked, Carrick was asked to take the charge. The former midfielder managed United for 3 games and won 2 of them, and drew 1. He stepped down from his role after defeating Arsenal by 3-2.
Currently, Carrick is managing Middlesbrough, who competes in Championship. Middlesbrough finished 4th in the league and will be playing in the playoffs to secure the slot for Premier League. They will be up against Coventry in the semifinals.
