Premier League: Liverpool vs Brighton live: Liverpool have further slipped down Chelsea’s tally at the top of the table after a disappointing 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. Jurgen Klopp’s Reds clinched a 2-0 lead before Brighton hit back with Enock Mwepu and Leandro Trossard sharing the spoils at Anfield. The result ended Liverpool’s four-game winning run in all competitions three behind leaders Chelsea.

Brighton & Hove Albion fought back from two goals down to earn a surprise 2-2 Premier League draw at Liverpool on Saturday, as Enock Mwepu and Leandro Trossard spoiled what would have been a perfect week for the Merseyside club. The result ended Liverpool’s four-game winning run in all competitions and left them second in the standings on 22 points from 10 games, three behind leaders Chelsea. Brighton provisionally stayed sixth on 16 points.

Following a 5-0 drubbing of Manchester United on Sunday and Wednesday’s 2-0 League Cup win at Preston North End, Liverpool were full of confidence and early goals from Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane put them in control. Brighton showed plenty of intent in the first half as Solly March missed a chance and Yves Bissouma hit the outside of the post
after they fell behind, and their bold approach eventually paid dividends.

Jordan Henderson fired the home side into a fourth-minute lead with a first-time shot from the edge of the penalty area after he was teed up by Mohamed Salah, and Mane made it 2-0 with a diving header in the 24th from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross. Brighton pulled one back in the 41st minute out of the blue as Zambian midfielder Mwepu scored his first Premier League goal with a delightful long-range effort that sailed over Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Brighton gained the upper hand in the second half and drew level in the 65th minute when Trossard side-stepped his marker
and drove a low shot past Alisson after an assist by former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana. The end-to-end action at Anfield saw three goals ruled out after VAR checks, as Mane had one chalked off for handball and Salah another for offside while Trossard also had an effort scrapped for offside.

Trossard felt Brighton could have done even better. “I think we started off poor in the first half but after they scored their second we came back into it,” the Belgian forward told the
BBC. “We got our goal and believed a lot more. What a good game, we could have won it as well, it’s such fine margins but we’re
really happy with a draw”.

Premier League: Liverpool vs Brighton live: After a poor title defence, Liverpool are up and running in some style with Mohammed Salah in imperious form. The Reds come into the game on the back of a historic 5-0 win at Old Trafford with their Egyptian scoring a stellar hat-trick. Jurgen Klopp’s side are unbeaten this season, with draws against Brentford, Manchester City and Chelsea being the only blemish on their record. Salah and Co. got some much-needed rest with Klopp playing his fringe players in the Carabao Cup, who claimed a 2-0 win over Preston to keep their silverware hopes alive on all fronts. 

Brighton meanwhile have made a good start to the season and find itself just two points off the top four heading into the tip to Anfield. However, Graham Potter’s side have hit a rut in recent times, winless in their last five games since their Carabao Cup win over Swansea City. The Seagulls were knocked out of the competition by Leicester, who claimed the win on penalties to progress further. Brighton’s last Premier League outing saw them crushed by Manchester City, but Potter’s side did play some impressive football in the second half of the contest.

Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Liverpool are likely to have Naby Kieta available for the game against Brighton as the club are managing a mini injury crisis. Fabinho and James Milner reamined ruled out due to injuries, while the same can be said for Thiago, who returned to training on the eve of the game. Harvey Elliot is ruled out for a significant part of the season, while a host of first-teamers including Allison are set to be restored after a midweek’s rest. 

Brighton: The Seagulls have some good news coming from their camp with Yves Bissouma and Adam Webster available again, the duo having made returns from injury against Leicester. Dan Burn is ruled out due to an injury, while Shane Duffy is back fully fit, along with Taylor Richards, who wasn’t risked in the Carabao Cup game.

Salah cutting in from the right flank and scoring with his left foot has almost become customary with Liverpool matches this season, and it would be a surprise if the Golden Boot leader doesn’t get on the scoresheet on Saturday.

Chances are likely hard to come by for the Seagulls, and Trossard will be trusted with the responsibility to put them away if they do arrive on a plate. With Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate to contend with, the Belgian will have to be on the top of his game to make an impact.
