Premier League: Liverpool and Chelsea guarantee UEFA Champions League spot; Leicester settles for Europa League- Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have qualified in the UEFA Champions League with a top 4 finish in the Premier League. Manchester City went on to win the title while Manchester United finished second. Liverpool secured a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace while Chelsea bagged the fourth spot despite losing the final fixture 1-2 to Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, FA Cup champions Leicester City missed out on a place in the Champions league after a 4-2 bashing by Tottenham Hotspur. They will play in the UEFA Europa League along with West Ham United while Tottenham Hotspur will play the UEFA Europa Conference League.

  • Liverpool and Chelsea qualify for the Champions League.

Manchester City won the Premier League title while Manchester United had second-most points to ensure a spot in the UEFA Champions League. It was down to Leicester City, Liverpool and Chelsea to decide the top 4 places in the Premier League.

Final Round Results:

Liverpool 2-0 Crystal Palace

Leicester City 2-4 Tottenham Hotspur

Chelsea 1-2 Aston Villa

The losses pushed Chelsea and Leicester City from 3rd and 4th place to 4th and 5th while Jurgen Klopp’s men surged to 3rd place in the Premier League points table.

UEFA Europa League (UEL) 

Leicester City and West Ham United

The fifth-place team in the Premier League qualifies for the group stage.

The winners of the FA Cup qualify for the group stage (Leicester City).

Leicester City already guaranteed a place in Europa League with an FA Cup win. They could have entered the UEFA Champions League but lost to the Spurs in the final round fixture 4-2. Except Jamie Vardy (struck twice), none of the players were able to net the ball.

On the other hand, West Ham ensured they keep their place to secure a berth in the UEFA Europa League.

Tottenham Hotspur

The UEFA Conference League spot is held by the seventh-placed team.

Big heroes Harry Kane and Gareth Bale (struck twice) scored goals to ensure a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Premier League: Fulham, West Brom and Sheffield United Relegated

Bottom placed teams Fulham, West Brom and Sheffield United relegated after having the least points among the top 20 teams. These three teams will next play in the Championships as equal number of new teams will make their presence in the Premier League.
