Premier League: Five front-runners to replace Ole Gunnar Solksjaer at Man Utd– After a 0-5 drubbing to Liverpool in their last game, the pressure seems to have mounted heavily on Man Utd manager Ole Gunnar Solkajaer. His job is reportedly on the line despite signing a three-year extended deal a few months ago. He has failed to win a trophy for the red devils since taking charge almost 3 years ago. Despite finishing second last season, they have already lost 5 out of the last 9 matches.
Premier League: Five front-runners to replace Ole Gunnar Solksjaer at Man Utd
As many as five managers are in the race for the Man Utd top job– Antonio Conte, Zinedine Zidane, Brendan Rodgers, Luis Enrique and Erik Ten Hag.
- Antonio Conte
Italy’s Antonio Conte had helped 10th placed Chelsea win the Premier League title next season in 2016/17. Since leaving Inter Milan after guiding the Italian club to the Serie A title, he is without a club. He could be the firepower that Man Utd needs to break their title jinx. Solskjaer’s men have kept one clean sheet in 21 games and shipped 11 goals in a week against Leicester, Atalanta and Liverpool. However, Conte’s fiery temperament and tendency to fall out with his superiors could count against him.
- Zinedine Zidane
Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is known how to mould a star-studded squad. He has won two La Liga titles and could help get the best out of the team featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho. Man Utd have invested a lot in these players to win the Premier League trophy. Three of Ronaldo and Varane’s Champions League titles came under Zidane at Real Madrid.
- Brendan Rodgers
Leicester boss has been tremendous since taking charge of Foxes. He has rebuilt a reputation since a roller ride at Anfield, Liverpool between 2012-15. He has proved himself that he is capable of handling the demands of winning every week at Celtic. He also clean swept domestic trophies before returning to Premier League. Leicester beat European champions to win FA Cup for the first time in club history last season and narrowly missed out on the Champions League.
- Luis Enrique
Spanish coach Luis Enrique has a lot of experience in getting the best out of talented players. He won the treble in his first season at Barcelona and then won the La Liga title with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez. He was also impressive with Spain at Euro 2020 and Nationals League finals. It shows he has the potential of leading an exciting side.
- Erik Ten Hag
The Dutch professional is a force to be reckoned. He is responsible for arguably the best team in Europe– Ajax, which cruised in the last 16 of the Champions League. They also won the Eredivisie title by hammering PSV Eindhoven 5-0 on Sunday.
Ten Haag was linked with a number of top jobs after leading the four-time European champions to the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 1997 two years ago.
