Premier League: Edinson Cavani to stay at Manchester United ahead of World Cup Qualifiers– Manchester United star Edinson Cavani is set to remain with the Red Devils after his international call-up was cancelled. He was earlier named in Uruguay’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers. However, the veteran striker would have been forced to miss a few games if had travelled for the matches. The Uruguay national will now stay in England which means he won’t have to undergo any period of quarantine in September.
World Cup Qualifiers: Uruguay national football association released a statement this morning that read, “According to the situation that has occurred for players from England, the Uruguayan Football Association has decided to cancel the call up for Edinson Cavani.‘

Earlier, all the 20 Premier League clubs had announced that they would not release players who had to travel to countries that have been ‘red listed’ by the UK. It added that players who decided to travel will have to undergo 10 days of mandatory quarantine whenever return to the UK after their trip to a”Red listed” country.
If Cavani had travelled, the 34-year-old would be forced to miss two Premier League games alongside United’s Champions League clash and a Carabao Cup tie. Red Devils head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had is said to have warned Cavani Fred about how they would have missed “more than just a few matches” if they decided to fly out during the international break.

Tottenham’s South American and Argentine duo of Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso are said to defy Premier League’s orders and join up their national team. Their fellow national countrymen Emi Buendia and Emiliano Martinez will also feature for the Copa America 2021 winners after they took permission from the club.
