Premier League – Chairman Bruce Buck steps down: The Chelsea Football Club’s Chairman Bruce Buck steps down from his role after 19 years. During his time, Chelsea won 18 major men’s trophies, including five Premier League titles and two Champions League titles. Furthermore, the club won 12 major trophies in the women’s game. After serving Chelsea since 2003 and under the new ownership of Todd Boehly, Bruce Buck will now support the club as Senior Advisor from 30 June 2022. Todd Boehly bought the club from Roman Abramovich.

Marina Granovskaia, who was responsible for transfer negotiations under the ownership of Roman Abramovich is also set to leave the club after stepping down of Bruce Buck as the Chairman. Under Bruce Buck, the club became one of the well-known elite clubs in the world and a brand, which is globally recognised and followed by millions.

How Chelsea changed after Roman Abramovich: Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea FC in 2003 for $187 million. After his arrival, the club transformed into one of the richest clubs in the world. Changes in the club after his arrival –

  • One of his early decision was to make Jose Mourinho the manager of the club. In Jose Mourinho’s first season as Manager, Chelsea FC won its first league championship in 1955 and again in 2006.
  • Frequent changes in the managerial role. Still, the club did not stop winning trophies.
  • During the past 19 years, 13 managers have managed the club. Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink became managed the club twice.
  • In 2012, Chelsea FC won its maiden Champions League under Roberto Di Matteo.
  • Frank Lampard was removed as Manager after 17 months.
  • Thomas Tuchel became the new manager and the club won its second Champions League title.

Reason behind Bruce Buck stepping down: Explaining the reason behind his decision, Bruce Buck said on the Chelsea Football Club’s website said, “I am proud to have helped Chelsea realise great success on the pitch and make a positive impact in the community. Now is the right time to step down and let new ownership build on the strong foundations we have in place. The owners have a compelling vision for Chelsea’s future, and I look forward to helping them achieve it in this new role alongside our incredible staff, players, coaches and supporters.”

Todd Boehly, Co-controlling Owner of Chelsea FC said, “Bruce has led Chelsea to the highest levels of international and domestic football, while also developing one of the most active social responsibility projects in sport. We thank Bruce for his service and his commitment to the club.”

Bruce Buck’s decision to step down as the club’s Chairman came in the midst of CEO Guy Lawrence also leaving the club. Also, Director Eugene Tenenbaum has been sanctioned due to his financial connections with Russia.

Trophies under Bruce Buck: The blues have won numerous trophies under Bruce Buck, which are as follows –

  • First Premier League title in 2004-2005
  • Chelsea FC 5 Premier League titles in total
  • Won 5 FA Cup titles since 2003
  • Won three League Cup titles
  • Won two Community Shield
