Premier League: Big blow to Man Utd, loses 200 million pound training kit deal- In what comes as a huge blow to Premier League and European football giant Manchester United, the Red Devils have lost a lucrative new training kit deal worth 200 million pound with The Hut Group (THG). The eCommerce firm ended talks with the EPL club amid concerns that it could be boycotted by the protestors against American owners.

As per a report, the Premier League club and THG were negotiating a 10-year deal worth 200 million pound. The THG brand Myprotein was the front runner to replace insurance firm Aon on Man Utd training shirts from July 1.

Manchester United vs Liverpool game postponed after fans protest for Glazer family’s ownership

Manchester United on May 7 were informed that THG would be withdrawing its offer amid protests against the Glazer family on May 2 that forced the Man Utd vs Liverpool fixture to be postponed. A group of Man Utd fans had launched an online campaign #NotAPennyMore boycotting brands that are sponsoring the English club.

NOTE: Man Utd desperately needs a replacement for Aon, whose deal with the club will reportedly end on June 30.

“Your sponsorship money will be used for debt servicing and dividends. Supporting the Glazers does not support the club. It sustains a parasitical relationship,” read a letter addressed to Man Utd’s commercial partners, seen by SportsPro.

“To that end, Manchester United fans will boycott your products, seek to tarnish your brands and support your competitors until you terminate your commercial partnerships with the Glazer family,” it added.

The tension began when Man Utd were named among 12 funding members of the boycotted European Super League (ESL). A large Man Utd fanbase has opposed the Glazer;’s family ownership. The club has withdrawn from the project along with the top 6 Premier League clubs.

Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) has since issued a letter to Glazers with a 4-point plan.

Last week, Man Utd’s co-chairman Joel Glazer apologized for the club’s involvement with ESL.
