Premier League: 2 big players set to miss out heavyweight Tottenham vs Manchester City clash, check out- Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City will lock horns against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday as they kickstart their title defense. Pep Guardiola will be eager to shrug off the Community Sheild loss to Leicester City and focus on the first match of the new season.

Pep Guardiola will head into the match not be able to play his strongest 11 citing injury concerns. Just like City, Spurs are also set to miss their skipper Harry Kane after the English international shenanigans of leaving the London outfit this summer. Let’s have a look at all the Man City and Spurs stars that could miss out on from featuring in their 2021-22 opener.

Premier League Tottenham vs Man City: No Harry Kane?

Kane trapped himself with that six-year Spurs contract

Harry Kane was with the England squad and had a busy summer featuring in the Euro 2020. The Spurs Skipper led Three Lions to the final of the tournament which saw his vacations being postponed.

He was seen enjoying his time off in the Bahamas before refusing to return on his schedule for the team training.  After returning late and undergoing quarantine, Kane is yet to train with the Spurs squad which rules him out of their season opener against Man City this week

Premier League Tottenham vs Man City: De Bruyne to miss Spurs clash

Kevin De Bruyne remains a major doubt for Manchester City’s tournament opener against Spurs on Sunday. The Belgium attacker suffered an injury during the recently concluded Euro 2020 and could miss out on being in the matchday squad this week.

Speaking with the media during their Community Shield last week, Pep was quoted saying how Belgium “could out for a while.” Despite returning to first-team training ahead of the match against Spurs, Pep is expected to rest him this week and ease the 30-year-old back into action.

The Man City head coach also provided an injury update on English international Phil Foden. The 21-year-old is also expected to remain in the treatment room with Pep claiming that Foden is “much further away” from returning back than De Bruyne. Foden will spend time on the sidelines for at least four more weeks before making his return to competitive football.

However, Pep Guardiola’s man City has a rich depth of players in the midfield which would ease pressure on the Spaniard. Bolstering the squad by the addition of Aston Villa star Jack Grealish, the Spaniard will aim at kickstarting their campaign with a win. The Aston Villa star featured in the Community Shield clash and could make his PL debut for City with Pep eager to play him in the absence of De Bruyne and Foden.

Premier League Tottenham vs Man City: Return of the stars

Manchester City saw their English and Brazilian players join the first team last week ahead of the upcoming season. They all had a busy summer playing for their respective national teams and missed the majority of the clubs’ pre-season training.

The likes of Ederson, John Stones, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, and Kyle Walker reported to training Monday, less than a week ahead of their clash against Spurs.

Aymeric Laporte also saw his training being delayed after he was forced to self-isolate last week. The center back was on the same flight as someone who had tested positive for Covid-19 and had to undergo a mandatory quarantine which postponed his return to first-team training.

Pep Guardiola will have to see check which play is match fit after having some leisure tiff off away from training and could feature for City in their first match of the Premier League 21-22 season.
