With a late goal in Reykjavik, Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his 200th international appearance and overcome a frustrating evening to help Portugal maintain its perfect record in EURO qualifying with a 1-0 victory over Iceland.

Guinness World Records has acknowledged and honoured Cristiano Ronaldo for his outstanding accomplishment of reaching 200 caps for Portugal.

During Portugal’s June 20 match against Iceland in the Euro 2024 Qualifiers, the legendary footballer completed this amazing achievement.

Cristiano Ronaldo received an official certificate from Guinness World Records as a complimentary record holder in recognition of his remarkable achievement. He also got a shirt from Portugal with the number “200” prominently written on the back to represent his record-breaking caps.

Despite achieving a record, the 38-year-old, who is also Portugal’s all-time leading scorer, said he has no plans to retire from international football anytime soon, reiterating his determination to keep having an influence on the global stage.

It is just another record for Ronaldo to add to his impressive resume in international football. With 123 goals in 200 games, the Al Nassr forward holds the record for most goals scored in international football history.

However, Ronaldo scored his 123rd goal for his country a minute from time, with VAR confirming the goal after ruling that Goncalo Inacio had been onside with his assist. Willum Willumsson of Iceland was sent off for two bookable offences in the final ten minutes.

Important fact: Portugal has won six straight Euro qualifying matches without giving up a goal, matching their best ever start to a qualifying campaign.
