Germany dominated the first few minutes of the game but was unable to dismantle their adversaries. When Thiaw skillfully fought off former Bundesliga star Jakub Blaszczykowski in the area in the 12th minute of Poland’s final match, he attracted everyone’s attention.

In the minutes that followed, chances were scarce. Despite having more of the ball, Germany was unable to convert against Poland because of their deep defensive positioning.

Musiala was able to connect with Henrichs, but his attempt to locate a teammate within the box was unsuccessful (22′). Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny parried a long shot from Havertz (29′).

Then, in the 31st minute, Kiwior headed home a corner kick from Piotr Zielinski to give Poland the lead. Germany responded right away, with Can missing the goal with a long-range attempt (45′) and Havertz having a shot stopped by Szczesny (34′).

In the waning moments, Szczesny was had to make another goal-line stop following a header from Wolf (88′). Additionally, the 33-year-old was able to stop Goretzka’s header, which helped his team win the match. On Tuesday at 20:45 CEST, Germany will play host to Colombia in Gelsenkirchen.
