Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has scored 68 goals for the Gunners so far, was stripped of captaincy on disciplinary grounds and also because of “unfortunate lack of commitment and passion” by the Gabonese.

“Apart from that, you can listen to individuals and you can understand different cultures, but that commitment and passion has to be there. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.

“The decision that we have taken as a club is very clear. It is because we believe that he has failed to be committed at the level that we all expect and agreed. It is as simple as that,” Arteta had said.

Aubameyang is said to have travelled to France to bring back her sick mother to England after taking permission, but returned a day later than decided. The former Borussia Dortmund star was left out of squad for Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Southampton and 2-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday.

Amid all the developments Aubameyang’s future at the club looks bleak. He has already been linked to a Barcelona move where the sudden retirement of Argentine star Sergio Aguero has freed up salary.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had once revealed about his promise to his grandfather and his desire to play for La Liga giants Real Madrid.

“Before he died two years ago, I promised him that one day I would play for Real Madrid,” Aubameyang had told L’Equipe in 2016.

“It’s what I said to him, I know it’s not easy but it’s something that I keep in mind.”
