Playing for the Argentina team, Paulo Dybala has an amazing relationship with Lionel Messi. Dybala also has a close relationship with his Roma coach Jose Mourinho. ‘The Special One’ managed Real Madrid when Messi was playing for Barcelona against them.
It never looked like the two had a very hearty relationship. However, it seems Mourinho has an affinity for Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, and all other Argentines. Recently in an interview, Dybala revealed that and the Roma coach’s reaction to Argentina’s World Cup win.
Talking to TYC Sports’ journalist, Gaston Edul, Dybala gave an insightful interview where he talked about many things. However, what got everyone’s attention was when he talked about how his Roma coach Jose Mourinho reacted to his World Cup win.
The talented forward also talked about Mourinho and his affinity for Argentina players including Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, and more. Apparently, Mourinho could not wait to know more about the World Cup win as he had called Dybala five times after Argentina won.
Dybala talked to him before he called his family. Dybala said in the interview, “When the final against France ended, I was in the traditional doping room, then I got to the locker room, I grabbed the phone to talk to my family and I had five missed calls from Mou. I think I called him first then my mother.” As per the Argentine forward, Mourinho was very happy with the win. Dybala continued to say how much Mourinho appreciates and loves Argentine players.
Dybala added, “He was very happy because he loves Argentines. He always tells me wonderful things about Di Maria and Messi too, he loves them very much. All the Argentinians have given him something more in their teams and he speaks very highly of everyone. He has great affection for all Argentines.” Mourinho managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013. He managed Angel Di Maria who was with Los Blancos at that time. He faced Lionel Messi multiple times who was then playing for Barcelona.
However, it seems, even so, Mourinho doesn’t dislike Messi or hold any grudge against him. The Portuguese manager doesn’t have any discrimination against Argentine players as well. That is clearly visible in the Portuguese manager’s efforts to bring Leandro Paredes to Roma. As per Dybala, he helped his coach and Paredes make the decision. Dybala said, “I tried to convince him (Paredes) to come to Roma. When I spoke to him early in the summer he still didn’t know whether to return to Paris or play for another team.”
He added, “I spoke to Mourinho a couple of times because I knew he wanted to return to Rome. One day, out of nowhere, Mou come to me and asks: ‘Is Leandro willing to join us? I called him and told him to come. I missed speaking Spanish in the locker room, our families know each other. He really likes the city, like me. This is a city where people experience football like in Argentina.” Mourinho and Dybala’s Roma face Slavia Praha in the Europa League on Thursday.
