Odisha FC vs Maziya S&RC Preview
Odisha FC has had an unimpressive start to the 2023-24 season so far. The Sergio Lobera coached side sit at the seventh place of Indian Super League table with one win in three games. Their AFC Cup campaign has started worse with two losses in two matches.
They succumbed to a 4-0 defeat at the hand of fellow ISL rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the opening matchday. Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Kings beat Lobera’s side 3-2 in their home fixture next, making sure Odisha FC languish at the bottom of Group D table.
Since their inception in 1996, Maziya Sports and Recreation Club have worked hard to establish themselves as Maldives’ best team. They earned promotion to the Dhivehi Premier League in 2006 but took some time to properly get to the top. Since 2015, they’ve won the Dhivehi Premier League three times, as well as the Maldives FA Cup twice. Maziya S&RC on the other hand has a decent record in the AFC Cup. They’ve participated in seven editions so far and played 39 games in the competition. Out of that, the Green Boys have won 12 games, drawn eight, and lost 19.
Maziya S&RC started their AFC Cup confidently. The side from Maldives beat Bangladesh champions Basundhara Kings in a dominating display in the opening game week. However, they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of ISL champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the next round. They now sit at the 2nd place of the Group D table with three points from two matches.
