Premier League giants Manchester United yesterday announced the signing of Ruben Amorim as their new manager. The Portuguese manager comes on to replace Erik ten Hag who was sacked by the board after a strong of poor performances by the Red Devils in both League and Europe.

Ruben Amorim claimed that he wanted to take up the Manchester United job at the end of the season. However, that was not an option that was offered to him. The 39-year-old claimed that Manchester United gave him an ultimatum of Now or Never to become the new manager of Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim speaks on Manchester United job

“The season started, we started very well, and then Manchester United came, they pay above the compensation clause and the president defends the club’s interests. I never discussed anything with the president. For three days I said I wanted to stay until the end of the season, but then I was told it was not possible,” said Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim claimed that there was no other option for him other than Manchester United. But he claimed that, he had to take up the job then and there because the giants didn’t give an option to wait till the end of the season. The new manager also added that he took just 3 days to decide on taking up the new job.

“It was now or never, or Manchester would go for another option. So, I had three days to make my mind up, to make a decision that changes radically my life,” Amorim added.

“I’ve had other opportunities – the president and [director of football] Hugo Viana can confirm this. It’s not the first or the second time that I have been requested by another team and I don’t want another team. After Sporting I wanted that one, Manchester, and I want that context because that context allows me to do things my way and the club believes me that way,” Amorim concluded.
