After Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest, Manchester City’s chances of winning the Premier League suffered a hit. The first-half goal from Bernardo Silva appeared to be enough for City to win, but Chris Wood tied the game with six minutes left on the clock.

The opportunity to overtake league leaders Arsenal, who secured a last-second victory against Aston Villa earlier on Saturday, was lost by Pep Guardiola’s team. The current league leaders are still in second position, two points behind Arsenal, who have a game remaining.

“It is one of the best games we have played but we drop two points,” Guardiola told the BBC. “We should be more aggressive. There are many games still to play, we know it. “We had amazing chances but it’s football. We have to score. We did everything. You have to do it. There were too many clear [chances] to score.”

Haaland had to wait for his chance to score his 33rd goal across all competitions in his remarkable debut season in England, but his wastefulness ultimately lost City all three points. The Norwegian appeared to have a good chance to score after his own shot rebounded against the crossbar, but he got under the rebound attempt and sent the ball into the stands.

The timing of Wood’s first goal for Forest after signing on loan from Newcastle United could not have been better; it gave his team a crucial point in their battle to stay in the Premier League and hurt City’s chances of winning the league. City’s loss against Leeds United marked the first time since April 2021 that they failed to defeat a newly-promoted team in the top division; until to Saturday’s tie, they had won nine straight such contests.
