Having guided the Blues to their maiden I-League championship in 2013, six-time AIFF Player of the Year Chhetri has since won five additional titles with the team, including the Federation Cup (2015, 2017), Indian Super League (2018-19), and Super Cup (2018). This year, the captain even led the Blue to the ISL and Super Cup finals while winning the Durand Cup.

In an exciting match, India successfully qualified for the 2023 SAFF Championship final. After extra time, there was no difference between the teams, but Igor Stimac’s team ultimately prevailed against Lebanon in the penalty shootout by a score of 4-2.
