Time 100 (often stylized as TIME 100) is an annual listicle of the 100 most influential people in the world, assembled by the American news magazine Time. Messi won the World Cup and led Argentina to the elusive trophy after 26 years. Mbappe was just a small margin away from helping France win back-to-back World Cups. Messi and Mbappé both made TIME’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, which was published on Thursday, April 13. These six athletes, together with Patrick Mahomes II, Brittney Griner, Iga Swiatek, and Mikaela Shiffrin, made the cut.

France and Argentina advanced to the FIFA World Cup final thanks to the two stars’ contributions to their respective nations in Qatar in 2022. After 120 minutes of football, the enthralling championship game concluded 3-3 with goals from Messi and Mbappe. Argentina went on to win via penalties to land their third World Cup title. The two have also been crucial for PSG, who leads the league table with eight games remaining in the 2022–23 French Ligue 1 season.

President of the United States Joe Biden, who has appeared on the TIME 100 six times, more than any other person this year, Elon Musk, Beyonce, Venus Williams, and Michael B. Jordan are among the other notables.

Federer’s words for Lionel Messi

On Time’s list, a prominent person or a teammate of those on the list writes a paragraph, and for Messi, Roger Federer addressed the significance of the Argentine. Federer wrote, ‘My career has just come to an end. I now realise how much weight we athletes carry. But in our daily lives, we don’t even realise it.’

He continued, ‘For a football player like Messi, that weight likely feels more massive, as he represents both a world-renowned club and a very passionate country.Even those who don’t follow football must have realised the true impact of the world’s most popular game.’

Ronaldo trolled for missing out on list

After Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi were included in TIME’s list of the 100 most influential people, fans on Twitter made fun of Cristiano Ronaldo. Numerous people argued that Ronaldo could never pull off the feat. Messi and Ronaldo have been batting on the field for the past 15 years. After Ronaldo missed out, some fans didn’t miss the opportunity to troll CR7.

One fan said, ‘Pendu could never.’ Another one added, ‘Ronaldo nowhere to be found’. One more fan added, ‘This is why Messi is the goat’. A fourth fan said, ‘Ended Cristiano’.
