The Italian has been the target of the Magpies’ pursuit for a while. They had initially made a bid of €50 million (£43 million/$55 million), but the Italian giants had not accepted it. Later, they raised their bid, luring Milan to sell the 23-year-old.
This summer, Newcastle has sought a number of midfielders and has reportedly made a bid for Inter’s Nicolo Barella while also showing interest in James Maddison of Leicester. But Tonali, who was regarded as their top target before the market began, seems to be the standout addition to Howe’s midfield.
