Newcastle Team News: Following a defeat to Man City, Newcastle are back home to end the unbeaten run of Liverpool. Barnes is likely to return and Joelinton is fully fit to play.

Newcastle Team News: Following a close defeat to Man City, Newcastle United are back at their fortress to get back to winning momentum. They started the season in dominating way after hammering Aston Villa 5-1 at home but the defeat to Man City gave them 8th spot going into the 3rd gameweek of the season. They host Liverpool who had a terrific record against the Magpies in both home and away. Newcastle needs to break the unbeaten run of Liverpool in Premier League

Eddie Howe’s side has a new goal this season and it won’t be easy to retain the Champions League qualification. Newcastle have to win against the top teams like Liverpool to carry the momentum later in the season. They would be happy that they kept Haaland silent in the last game and managed a 1-0 loss at Etihad. Magpies suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Reds when they last met at St James Park and Liverpool completed a league double for the second successive season.

Newcastle have to improve their game if they are in search of three points against Jurgen Klopp’s side. The hosts have just one clean sheet in 13 Premier League games and they have not beaten Liverpool since 2015. They have lost each of their last four games and the best result came with a draw at Anfield in winter 2021. Meanwhile, they have lost only three games at home since the beginning of 2022 but two out of three defeats came against the Reds.

Eddie Howe has to deal with injury concerns ahead of the crucial home game. The defeat at Etiahd added one more setback when Joelinton was taken off with an injury in the second half. However, the injury is not so big as the Brazilian will be available to play. If Eddie Howe keeps Joeliton out of the XI, he can trust either Sean Longstaff or Elliot Anderson to take a position in midfield.

New signing Lewis Hall is likely to wait for his debut for Newcastle. Dan Burn will be expected to take the position at left-back for now. Eddie Howe will surely include Hall in upcoming games. Newcastle will try to play the XI that thrashed Aston Villa in the season opener. Howe will stick with a 4-3-3 formation as they look to rely more on attack.

Newcastle have confirmed the injury of Emil Krafth and Joe Willock. The duo is out of contention for the home game. One good news for Eddie Howe is Javier Manquillo has fully recovered from a groin injury and he is back in training. The Newcastle boss will also realise his mistake of leaving Barnes out of the XI at Etihad. The scorer of the season opener will return to the XI replacing Anthony Gordon in the left-wing position.

Newcastle XI

Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Almiron, Isak, Barnes
