Newcastle takeover: Richest football club owners – With yesterday being a historic day for the footballing world, after a £300 million deal had gone through after Mike Ashley finally decided to sell Newcastle United to a Saudi based public investment fund which brought an end to his 14-year ownership of the Magpies.

A statement from the new owners read: “An investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and also comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media (the ‘Investment Group’), has completed the acquisition of 100% of Newcastle United Limited and Newcastle United Football Club Limited (‘Newcastle United’ or the ‘Club’) from St. James Holdings Limited. All requisite approvals have been obtained from the English Premier League and the acquisition was completed on 7 October 2021.”

Newcastle takeover:  After the deal is completed, Saudi’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is expected to own 80 per cent of the club, with Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers evenly splitting the remaining 20 per cent, reported the Daily Mail.

Newcastle United now have the richest owners in footballing world with a staggering estimated worth of £320 billion with stakes in multiple silicon valley companies ranging from SoftBank to Boeing, Facebook and Uber.

President Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s own wealth is reported to be around £6.5bn, but he is just the frontman for owners of Qatar Sports Investments, an offshoot of Qatar’s Investment Authority – which is the equivalent of the Saudi PIF, whose net worth is £220 million.
