Netherlands midfielder Donny Van De Beek has declared that he is ready to leave Manchester United after an unsatisfactory time with the club.
Manchester United signed the Dutch international from Ajax in 2020 for an initial fee of £35m. The club had high expectations from Van De Beek when he arrived. He had played a key role in Ajax’s progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2018-19. The season also saw Ajax lift the domestic double.
However, the 26-year-old has struggled with form as well as fitness since arriving at Old Trafford. He made only made six Premier League appearances in a period of over three years.
The midfielder was loaned out to Everton in the second half of 2021-22 but again found it hard to get game time, making seven starts for the Toffees. He has featured in just 21 minutes in all competitions this season.
Now, Van De Beek has admitted that he has to be more ambitious in his approach to find more playing time.
“I am bouncing to play matches again. The manager is making different choices now. We have a big squad and I am not the only one knocking on the door. We’ll see in January what happens. I need to start playing games very soon, if not at Man United then at another club, I have to be ambitious,” he said, according to The Mirror.
