Arch-rivals Mohun Bagan and East Bengal resume their ISL 2023-24 journey with a much-awaited Kolkata Derby. Riding high on a successful Kalinga Super Cup campaign the Red and Gold will aim for their first ISL derby win.

The enduring rivalry between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, spanning over a century, traces back to their initial encounter on August 8, 1921. Across 395 matches, these clubs have maintained a closely contested record, with East Bengal victorious in 141 encounters and Mohun Bagan securing 128 wins in this storied football rivalry. Despite this rich history, East Bengal is yet to secure a Kolkata Derby victory in the ISL.

The upcoming encounter on Saturday marks the fourth Kolkata Derby of the season. In the Durand Cup group stage, East Bengal claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Mohun Bagan SG. However, the tables turned in the final, with the Mariners securing a 1-0 triumph.

A recent clash occurred in the Kalinga Super Cup in Bhubaneswar, where the Red and Gold Brigade emerged as the superior side, clinching a victory. Nevertheless, all previous outcomes are set aside on February 3. Both teams will commence with a clean slate as they face off in front of a packed Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
