Mohun Bagan Super Giants have broken the ISL transfer record as they rope in Indian international Anirudh Thapa from Chennaiyin FC. Thapa, the captain of the Chennai-based franchise, signs a five-year deal with the Kolkata club. Chennaiyin FC will receive a massive Rs 3 crore in transfer fees, while Thapa will earn the same every season.
Mohun Bagan Super Giants have flexed their financial muscles to fend off competition in their chase of Anirudh Thapa. The Indian international was on the club’s radar last year but chose to sign an extension with Chennaiyin FC. Come the 2023-24 season, MBSG have finally managed to nab their man. Super Giants were locked in battle with Mumbai City FC.

As per IFTWC, Anirudh Thapa is set to earn Rs 3 crore every season with the Mohun Bagan Super Giants. Chennaiyin FC also received Rs 3 crore on the transfer, ending their 6-year association with the Dehradun star. He was the club captain for the past two seasons.
Thapa is currently with the Indian squad playing in the Intercontinental Cup. He will join his new club after international duty. The 25-year-old will have a big role to play, partnering with Hugo Boumous in midfield.
The Chennaiyin FC star is the latest of the big-name signings MBSG have made this season. The club also confirmed the purchases of A-League superstar Jason Cummings and Anwar Ali.
