Mohun Bagan Super Giants won the Durand Trophy on Sunday. The trophy win felt sweeter for the fans as it came at the expense of Emami East Bengal who beat them in the group stage. The Mariners won their first trophy since the removal of ‘ATK’ from the team’s name. Dimitri Petratos scored the only goal of the match in the 71st minute.

Mohun Bagan’s Anirudh Thapa was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the 62nd minute for a rash challenge. East Bengal could not find their way into the match even with a one-man advantage.

Emami East Bengal came touching distance of a trophy after a long time but was let down by their poor finishing. Most crosses by the Red & Gold brigade landed away from the attackers.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant got a few clear cut chances but failed to register a single shot on goal apart from the goal itself.

The fans of both the teams reacted to Mohun Bagan’s Durand win after the match. Most of the MBSG fans exuded exuberance to avenge the group-stage loss at the hand of their arch rivals after four years. Some fans also expressed pleasure at the gutsy manner of the win after going a man down.

Some Emami East Bengal fans stood beside the team after the loss and hailed their team’s determination to reach the finals after being underdogs.

There were some humorous reactions too on various events of the match. Sadiku’s short was pulled by Saúl Crespo and the social media was quick to point out that there are easier ways to aquire the jersey of Sadiku.
