Mariners on the charge
It was one-way traffic in the first half as the Mariners went on to unleash barrages of attacks. Manvir Singh almost scored the opening goal with a glancing header but he was deemed offside by just a whisker. But then it was the ace forward, Jamie Maclaren who bagged the opening goal to send the Mariners in a state of frenzy.
Maclaren had come close to scoring on multiple occasions previously. But then he got the most important goal in the 41st minute of the game. Greg Stewart lobbed a delightful long ball to Manvir Singh on the right flank. The Indian winger then crossed an inch-perfect pass to Jamie who tucked it home.

Dimi Petratos Scores again in the Kolkata Derby
The Mariners continued their hunt for yet another goal. But East Bengal remained resilient in their defense, thwarting every attack of the Mariners. And then in the 89th minute of the game, the Green and Maroon got a chance to double their lead and they didn’t miss it.
Ace forward Dimitri Petratos who replaced Jamie Maclaren was fouled inside the box by Prabhsukhan Gill. And up stepped Dimi and converted the goal with a cool head, as he did in the previous season’s derby.
I am Not a Magician – Jose Molina
“It is a big win for the team. A big performance, but the most important thing was the three win points. I am a team player and work hard for the team. I don’t choose my position, the coach asks me to do a job and I do what he asks me. It will be very nice if the fans compare me with legends like (Barreto, and Norde). We can get better, we have a lot of work left to do. At the end of the season, we want to win more games and silverware,” said Greg Stewart after winning the Kolkata Derby.
Greg Stewart was adjudged the Man of the Match for his exceptional performances. The Scottish forward went on to dedicate this special win to his wife and daughter who was present in the stadium for the first time this season.
But Mohun Bagan coach Jose Molina claims that he is not a magician. The Mariners under the Spaniard went on to win 2 back to back Kolkata Derbies – first against Mohammedan and then today against East Bengal. The Spaiard was quite shy in speaking about the potential referee mistakes.
“I am not a Magician, I am just a coach. I am happy with my team’s performance. I couldn’t see Anwar’s tackle on Greg, so can’t say whether it was a penalty or not. But then, someone told me that Manvir’s goal was also not an offside,” said Molina in the post match press conference.
