Mohamed Salah’s legal advisor, Rami Abbas, discussed how the contract negotiations nearly fell through.

He said:

“When you have put your requests on the table, and you don’t get anything you’ve asked for, you have to start thinking about parting ways,” Abbas told a Harvard Business School (HBS) study.

“We conservatively expect the total amount received by Mohamed [Salah] and the image rights companies over the next few years from both his playing contract and his image rights contracts to be somewhere between €54m [£46.8m] and €62m [£53.7m] per year.”

Liverpool’s star winger finally signed a new contract with the club in July 2022. This new deal reportedly nets him over €1 million per week. This makes Salah the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history. He is now among the top earners in the Premier League in the company of superstars from Manchester City’s treble-winning side, like Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

What is Mohamed Salah’s Net Worth?

The Liverpool star has an estimated net worth of about £75 million. Salah has amassed much money from his football wages, brand deals, and image rights. The footballer reportedly made £29 million between June 2019 and June 2020. This put him in the top 30 paid athletes in the world.

Speaking about his future at the club, the fact that Salah has now committed his future to Liverpool has not stopped clubs from trying to sign him. Liverpool rejected a massive £150 million bid for Salah. Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad submitted this bid.

Al-Ittihad tried to entice Salah to leave Liverpool and join the Saudi Pro League. They submitted a massive £150 million bid and reportedly offered Salah a very lucrative package to join their club. Even though the bid was rejected this time, Al-Ittihad will likely try to lure Salah to the Saudi Pro League again.

Mohamed Salah, however, has always maintained that he is extremely happy at Liverpool. Even during the negotiations, Salah said he wants to stay at Anfield and knows the club also wants the same.

As to why the new deal took so long to close, Rami Abbas has clarified that the negotiations were not stalled due to anything minor. He said:

“We are still very far apart. Mohamed isn’t going to throw away his contract because of a 5% difference in what we are asking for and what they are willing to give – it is much more than that.”
