Missing out on Caicedo, Lavia, Liverpool turn to Endo to solidly defensive woes

Liverpool look to Wataru Endo to shore up their defensive difficulties after losing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.

After missing out on other targets, Liverpool has signed Japan international Wataru Endo from Stuttgart. Both Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo were passed up by the Red. As a result, they resorted to the 30-year-old, with a medical set to be performed on Thursday.

Liverpool were forced to work swiftly to identify new targets after both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia turned down moves to Chelsea in the previous week. It’s unclear whether, as a more experienced player, he was originally planned to come in with one of the aforementioned younger players.

The 30-year-old midfielder offers a wealth of expertise to the engine room at his possible new club. With the departures of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Fabinho this summer. Endo is presently the captain of both Stuttgart and Japan, despite his lack of global recognition. He’ll most likely be a positive influence in the locker room.

He is a very versatile player, similar to Milner in particular. After playing in central midfield, defensive midfield, and centre-back and right-back positions. Milner was Trent Alexander-Arnold’s top backup until he moved to Brighton this summer, and Endo may fill that role.

Endo’s playing role will be determined if he registers by midday on Friday. He could be named to the matchday squad for Liverpool’s match against Bournemouth at Anfield. Although it is unlikely that he will be thrown into the game right away. It would be beneficial for the Japan international to play at least some minutes in front of his new home fans during that game.

This is all dependent on what else Klopp and his team do in the transfer window. Every day, fresh defensive-minded midfielders appear to be linked. It would not be surprising to see a more expensive acquisition join Endo to bolster the ranks.
