The AIFF disciplinary committee has suspended Milos Drincic of Kerala Blasters FC and Yoell Van Nieff of Mumbai City FC for three games in a row. This follows a brawl and catastrophe in the last minutes of Mumbai City FC’s ISL 2023-24 match against Kerala Blasters. They have 10 days to seek the decision’s reasoning and file an appeal.
Kerala Blasters were involved in another refereeing dispute after losing 1-2 to Mumbai City FC. Mumbai was the first to draw blood in an exciting match between the two sides.
It came via Jorge Pereyra Diaz, albeit thanks to an error by Kerala custodian Sachin Suresh. In the second half, Blasters levelled against the flow of play, with Danish Farooq headed in a Sandeep Singh cross.
Suresh and defender Pritam Kotal miscommunicated, prompting Lalengmawia Ralte’s vigilance. In the 66th minute, the latter headed in a loose ball into the net to give Mumbai the lead.
Things began to heat up on the pitch as Kerala Blasters went all out for an equaliser and Mumbai City played for the final whistle. It all started with KBFC replacement Sandeep Singh and Mumbai substitute Gurkirat Singh getting into a fight.
As a result, both received yellow cards. Soon after, defender Milos Drincic shoulder-charged Mehtab Singh after fouling Kerala’s Kwame Peprah and elbowing Rahul K.P. It quickly devolved into a free-for-all, with Yoell Van Nieff of Mumbai and Prabir Das of Kerala taking the major stage. The referee appeared to have lost control of the situation when Rostyn John Griffiths was seen holding Das in a “choke” position.
